LATISSE® is a prescription-strength solution containing the active ingredient bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analog. Initially used in eye drops for glaucoma treatment (under the brand name Lumigan), it was discovered as a side effect that patients grew significantly enhanced eyelashes, leading to its development for cosmetic use. Latisse works by increasing the percentage of hairs in, and the duration of, the anagen (growth) phase of the eyelash hair cycle. With consistent, nightly application to the upper lash line, users can expect gradual results, with noticeable improvement in length often starting in as little as four weeks and full results in terms of length, thickness, and darkness typically achieved after 12 to 16 weeks.
